I bought my son a new Trek Dual Sport 2 that has a through skewer (no QR) fork with no dropouts. It wouldn’t attach to my current fork mount bike rack. Saw this and it looked like just what I needed. It was a direct bolt on to my truck bed bike rack and fit his fork perfectly. I just needed to buy another QR skewer to mount his wheel in the wheel hitch and it’s gtg.

I have a couple of older fork mounts that have gotten very rusty, so I ordered this as a potential replacement. My older mounts are the kind where the bike fork rests directly on the metal rod/skewer that inserts into the metal housing. In this newer mount, the fork rests on a smaller-diameter portion of the housing. This gives you a little less “landing area” for the two sides of the fork, and the skewer is just there to clamp the bike in place once it’s resting on the mount. It was a little tricky to use at first, but my Cannondale road bike mounts just fine. Assembly was also a bit of a challenge, since I hadn’t seen this type of mount before. After a few minutes though, it made sense – the springs go on each side of the housing, with the smaller ends facing inside. The included mounting hardware was not useful to me, since I’m using a DIY rack made of wood, but it’s nice that they provided it. The three holes at the base of the mount will provide plenty of attachment points for wood screws and washers. Ultimately, I think I prefer the simpler mounts with the larger skewer, but this is still a solid option.
