UPDATED 6/16/2024: I took this hat and my expensive sun hat on a trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon during a heat wave. This hat performed surprisingly well. The forehead band fabric worked very well in sweat worthy weather. Because the rim is floppy, I was able to lightly fold the hat to fit in my day pack with no problem. The hat stayed on my head better than the expensive one, possibly due to being larger and fitting halfway down my forehead instead of at the top of my forehead for the expensive hat. The fabric for this hat was also lighter weight and provided better coverage for my neck and ears. After wearing both hats on separate days, I decided to wear this hat the 3rd day–I think partly because of the lightweight fabric. I even got a compliment on the hat from a fellow hiker!The sun hat is well designed for flexibility (see photo). It has a removable chin strap, neck and ear cover, breathable mesh fabric, and a velcro clasp and hat rim to tuck in the neck and ear cover, if desired. The fabric is polyester, which is commonly found in this type of hat and clothing, even though it isn’t a “cool” fabric. It is soft and thin and has a nice weave that should wick sweat from the body to make the wearer feel cooler and dry more quickly in hot weather. The fabric is rated with a UPF-50 rating, which means that it blocks 98% of the sun’s rays, allowing only 2% (1/50th) to penetrate.My head circumference is 22-1/2 inches and I have a little extra room, so I believe a head girth of 22” – 23.62” should be true-to-size (the tag says the size is “L”). On my head, the soft wide brim front tilts upward and then immediately tips a bit downward (see photo of hat on bottle). Some hats have hard brims. This one protects my face, is lighter weight and thus, potentially cooler than a hard brim hat.While the whole hat should have some moisture-wicking ability based on the cloth, I believe there are better moisture-wicking fabrics that should be used for the forehead band, which tends to get a lot of sweat. After using expensive hats for multiple decades as a swim official, I’m skeptical about how well this band will work in hot weather, but I haven’t tried it yet. The other thing I didn’t care for was the clip to tighten the cord around the neck. I’m used to pressing on both short sides to move the clip, but this design requires you to press on one of the large sides only. It might be a matter of getting used to it.For the price (1/3 of the cost of expensive hats), this looks like a very good hat that will provide great sun protection, has a flexible configuration, and is comfortable. I’m looking forward to using it in hot weather this summer!

I like to go out and garden and putter with my flowers, but the sun is so hot here in the South, and I burn very easily. I ordered this one because it has the flap for the back of my neck. It works perfectly! The holes in the top allow airflow, and the cord keeps it tight in windy weather. This really is a great hat for working outdoors.
