While this is definitely a newer pattern boonie, I appreciate the OG style details, like the map pocket in the crown.It is worth noting that this hat pattern has the newer, way WIDER, brim- which I’d heard was a USMC version, but I couldn’t attest to it, but it is definitely MUCH broader a brim than any of my old school boonie covers.This one also has an elastic bungee in the band for one-size-fits-nearly-everyone, which I do appreciate, since my 7 3/4 or 7/8 nug frequently doesn’t fit into some boonies, especially over time with material shrinking.Long story short, this ain’t your grandpa’s boonie, but there’s a LOT of great things to recommend it.If you’re looking for Vietnam era replicas, this isn’t for you. If you’re looking for new and functional, this will do you right.
