CURT 18029 Trailer Hitch Bike Rack Mount, Fits 1-1/4, 2-Inch Receiver, 2 Bicycles, CARBIDE BLACK POWDER COAT

Recently took this rack on a 2900+ mile roadtrip on the back of a Cobalt with a 1-1/4″ hitch. We went through all sorts of terrain, wash board dirt roads, rough asphalt, twisty mountain roads, San Francisco stop and go traffic and everything in between. Only issues I had was that on the roughest dirt road the bolt/pin in the hitch backed out and allowed the rack to reallly sway, and it also developed a fairly loud creak noise from the tensioning bolt in the base, but that was only audible at slow speeds. Also we had to throw a bungee cord on it to keep the bikes from swaying too much while going down the freeways and highways, but that’s a minor concern as that doesn’t hurt anything. It’s a heavy rack, and is well built and a very good deal for the price point it’s at. Only wish it came with a few more rubber straps to hold the bikes down. I’ve yet to try it in 2″ receiver but I don’t foresee any issues, would recommend it as a more economical option.

Five star unit for the price. Four stars for quieter, smoothness of operation. 4.5 in my book. The strap and bike holders keep the bikes firmly in place which is on the 4.5 scale. There is some clanging where it fits into the hitch and from it’s swivel point at the bottom of the rack where it swings away from the trunk if you pull the cotter pin out. The hardware is rugged and not undersized and well suited to the job, and the functionality of being able to pivot away from the trunk is nice.
