I really like these lightweight minimalist beanies. They make for versatile active insulation and colder weather without overheating you. They’re small and light construction makes them easy to swap out for colder weather headgear for static activities or hot weather hats when the temperature increases. They also make for pretty good helmet liners, though I prefer the Peruvian style (covers the ears) hat cut for those applications.This particular hat is an excellent example of the active beanie. Provides enough warmth to take the edge off in during the morning chill but doesn’t get stifling when your heart rate goes up and the sun comes out.The reflective pattern is just the right mix of stylish and understated. Makes for a really unique attractive look. But in my testing I found that the silver reflective elements (the black shell is not reflective) wasn’t as reflective as I expected. This should go without saying, but don’t rely on this hat alone for low light visibility. Pair with other reflective garments or powered markers. I’m not particularly bothered by the moderate reflective properties but as it’s use as reflective wear is a major selling point it’s worth acknowledging.Personally I think the hat is good enough on it’s merits to justify the price. It’s on par with other technical beanies from name brands within the athletic, outdoor, and defense space. But if reflection is your primary evaluating Factor look for something with more reflective surface area in a higher visibility color. If you want a good quality active beanie that happens to have a few reflective elements or indifferent to the reflective elements, this beanie is it fine choice and I feel comfortable recommending it.
